Pediatric Hearing Screening and Diagnostic Audiology Facilities

Most hospitals and birth centers in Oregon give newborns a hearing screening before the baby goes home. If your baby missed this test or did not pass it and is under 30 days old, they can usually get the screening (or a rescreening) at the place where they were born. Contact the birth facility to ask about scheduling, or use the list below to find a screening location.

If your baby was born at home with a midwife or trained birth attendant, they may have the equipment needed to do the screening. Reach out to your birth provider to ask about getting the test.

Some pediatricians also have hearing screening equipment. If your baby hasn’t had a hearing screening, you can ask your baby’s medical provider about getting one or use the list below to find a place near you.

Screening or Rescreening Test:  
  • If your baby did not receive an initial newborn hearing screening test, they will need a screening test.  
  • If your baby did not pass their initial newborn hearing screening test and was told they needed a rescreen, they will need another screening test.

Diagnostic Audiology Test: 
  • If your baby did not pass their initial newborn hearing screening test and a rescreening test or was told they would need an “audiology evaluation” or a “full hearing test,” they will need to schedule a diagnostic audiology appointment.
